Gas City I-69 Speedway
To Host USAC Midget Week Event
This Coming Wednesday, June 5

GAS CITY, Ind., May 29 – Sometimes big moments come in small packages.

The USAC NOS Energy Drink National Midget Championship comes to Gas City I-69 Speedway Wednesday night, June 5 for round two of USAC Indiana Midget Week.

Featuring top race drivers from around the country and a couple of foreign countries, the event will provide exciting wheel-to-wheel racing on the quarter-mile clay oval. The cars are scaled-down versions of sprint cars and they have been very popular race cars for more than 80 years in the United States.

Joining the midgets on the racing card will be their big brothers, non-wing sprint cars, and their little brothers, non-wing 600cc micro-sprints.

At press time the following drivers hold the top-10 positions in the USAC NOS National Midget point standings: Tyler “Sunshine” Courtney, Kevin Thomas Jr., C.J. Leary, Zeb Wise, Chris Windom, Logan Seavey, Chad Boat, Tucker Klaasmeyer, Tanner Carrick and Jesse Colwell. Many of these drivers are well known to Gas City I-69 Speedway fans, as they’ve seen them race at the popular track many times. Thomas, who trails Courtney by 39 points in the USAC national midget point standings at the moment, won the James Dean Classic USAC AMSOIL national sprint car race that was Gas City’s 2018 season finale last September.

Last year’s USAC Midget Week race at Gas City was rained out. Michael Pickens of New Zealand won the event in 2017 and is expected to enter next Wednesday’s race too. Shane Cottle and Darren Hagen have each won two USAC Indiana Midget Week races at Gas City in the past.

In celebrating of popularity of “small,” the speedway concessions will feature one-time menu items such as fried shrimp, braised short ribs and miniature donuts.

Tickets are available at the speedway ticket office the night of the event. Gates open at 5 p.m., hot laps are at 6:30 p.m. and racing will start at 7:30 p.m. Ticket prices are $25 for adults, $10 for students, and children 12 and under are free. Go to gascityI69speedway.com for more information. The speedway is located on State Road 22 or exit 259 off Interstate 69 in Gas City.
